Statement

My digital portfolio blog consists of A-level work and a collection of work I have completed whilst being on an Art foundation course.

During my A-level studies of Fine Art, I produced textiles based work and explored the manipulation of fabrics, construction of garments and textiles/surface pattern. I enjoyed both textiles and art, so combining aspects from both of these subjects allowed me to visualise my design ideas three dimensionally and strengthen my skills. My passion for design has developed further during the foundation course as this has allowed me to explore fashion further, run my own projects and broaden my knowledge on designers and their work.

I have included several drawings which were developed in a variety of different media from an 'Urban Environment- Architecture' project, along with monoprints. Also, I have included images from a 'Paper Dress' project which shows paper manipulation and experimentation with different origami shapes to create a wearable garment. I have included design ideas for a headwear project which displays the use of different media; also I have included images from 'The Body' project which shows relevant research, samples and designs, followed by a finished garment. My last post includes two drawings from life drawing sessions I attend in college; I feel that I am constantly progressing and improving my drawing skills by capturing the features of a human body in various different media.

I am hard working and eager to learn; I would love the opportunity to expand my knowledge and skills further at degree level. I feel that Manchester School of Art would be an amazing opportunity for me to achieve my full potential as I have always had a passion for designing and creating.

A-level work

Two A-level pieces themed on 'Nightmares'. Embellisment, beading, free machine embroidery and garment construction.

Architecture

Graphite drawing of The Liver Buildings. Second drawing of a building- experimental use of colour and texture through the build up of different materials. I used latex an ink colour wash and coloured soft pastels to build up and define shape.
Drawing of a Church in Liverpool- using a wax candle as a drawing tool and using an ink wash over it. Colour and material experimentation.
Combination of sketchbook pages from the Architecture project. First image- drawing with stitch using an image to work from that I took of a building in Liverpool. Second image- monoprint on paper of an image I took of the ceiling inside the Liver Buildings. Third image- monoprint of Liver Buildings image which I built up using water soluable crayons. Fourth image- monoprint of a building in China Town, Liverpool onto Calico fabric.

Paper Dress Project

The first sketchbook pages show artist research of Lousie Goldin and a series of experimentation with paper samples. The second shows paper manipulation and origami shapes influenced by John Galliano. Experimentation with different paper and colour.
Sketchbook Pages which show artist research of Peter Clark, Jum Nakao and John Galliano. The pages also include samples, design ideas, experimentation with different materials and photographs I took to document my progression.

Final Piece- paper dress inspired by John Galliano and Peter Clark. Dress make from recycled soft paper, grease proof paper and maps- constructed using staples.

Headwear Project

Monoprint illustrations that I produced to create a series of design ideas for a piece of Headwear. I used different materials which related to my mood board to reflect my chosen theme of 'Nature'. I experimented with different colours, textures and shapes to visualise my ideas.

The Body Project

Inspired by cellular and vein patterns within the body from research I had completed- sketchbook pages including samples from a combination of plastic, cling film and fabric and design ideas.
Final piece built up from a range of different samples I produced throughout the project. The body turned 'inside out' to create Distortion.

Life Drawing

In the first image, I used a collage of three different papers to build up the figure using light and dark. I then drew over this with a stick and ink to define the figure and add detail. In the second image, I used black paper and different shades of soft pastels including white, grey and black to build up the figure using line.
